In 2021, Splore was a special one. Under the theme "Mother," the event welcomed those who were overwhelmed by the pandemic and guided people to celebrate with joy.

Ko Papatūānuku te Whaea o te whenua.
Papatūānuku is the Earth Mother.

I was commissioned to create large mother dolls. They existed in the festival space and acted as soft guardians to people who looked after them. Their larger-than-life bosoms facilitated naps, their long arms provided hugs and comfort, and it was intended that they become an integral, iconic part of the festival.
